She'll receive a gorgeously-decorated basket full of healthy foods known for their abilities to help the body adjust to menopausal hormonal changes as well as foods with calcium, folic acid, and magnesium to help prevent osteoporosis (loss of estrogen yields an increased risk of developing osteoporosis). She'll also be munching on healthy treats to help stabilize her moods and emotions and she'll receive a guided imagery CD by Belleruth Naparstek on Mastering Menopause.

Calcium consumption is important during menopause not only because it can help control uncomfortable symptom of perimenopause and menopause, but because it can help ward off osteoporosis.

Magnesium can also be helpful in relieving symptoms of perimenopause as well as staving off osteoporosis. Foods such as nuts, seeds, and chocolate are good sources of magnesium.

Salmon, which is rich in vitamin B6, can also assist in warding off osteoporosis. Our wonderfully-flavorful smoked salmon tastes fantastic atop the crackers.

Research suggests that vitamin E may help to relieve perimenopause and menopause symptoms such as hot flashes, mood swings and night sweats. Vitamin E may also help prevent osteoporosis. Foods such as broccoli, almonds, sunflower seeds, and peanuts are all rich in this vitamin.

Folate (folic acid) is also important for the menopausal women as it helps prevent osteoporosis. Foods containing folic acid include broccoli, spinach, and dried beans.

The phytoestrogens in licorice have a mild estrogenic effect which helps minimize menopausal symptoms. Licorice also contains a fair amount of calcium and an impressive amount of iron, which can help relieve symptoms of perimenopause.

Vitamin C may be useful for relieving menopause symptoms experienced during perimenopause and also helps the body to absorb iron. Food Sources include: red cabbage, potatoes, strawberries, tangerines, oranges, red bell pepper, and kiwi.

Flaxseeds contain phytoestrogens that help balance a woman's hormone level during menopause. Flaxseeds may also help combat certain cancers, cardiovascular disease, and may reduce aches and pains.
